TYPICAL CONTENT

  • Characteristics of an effective teaching voice and any aspects of their voices that the group would like to work on
  • Anatomy of the vocal tract /How the voice is produced
  • Relaxation, posture and breathing – supporting the voice
  • Tips on caring for the voice to lessen strain and vocal fatigue
  • Tips for being heard in varied and difficult environments: playground, swimming pool, hall, background noise
  • Using resonance, not force, to be heard
  • Using intonation to add interest and so people listen
  • Pace and pause to add colour, meaning and emphasis
  • Articulation: The vowels and consonants of English and typical problems in articulation
  • Effective use of language for adult audiences as well as in front of the class
  • Using body language to back up the message in all settings


The day is interactive with lots of practice, discussion and sharing of ideas. It can be geared to differing needs of groups. It can also be adapted for admin staff. The information included can be useful in teaching aspects of the national curriculum. Workbooks and handouts are provided. The maximum group size is 25.
